Geekom Mini IT12 review 2024: Features and Price

Futureproof your desk with the expandable Geekom IT12.

The Geekom Mini IT12 is a powerful mini PC with the newest 12th Gen Intel Core processor, which lets you do more than one thing at once. It has a 2.5GbE LAN port and WiFi 6E, so it can connect even when networks are busy. It has a lot of great storage options, like M.2 SSDs and a 2.5-inch SATA drive bay, and can hold up to 5TB. The Mini IT12 is great for business, gaming, and multimedia tasks because it has great performance, graphics, and connectivity.

Geekom Mini IT12: Description

The Geekom Mini IT12 is a small PC that packs a lot of power. The computer we are testing has an Intel Core i7-1260P processor, 16 GB of RAM, a 512 GB solid-state drive, and Windows 11 Professional installed. The price the maker is asking for the device right now is $639. It normally costs $979, but this is already less than that. The Mini IT12 with less features starts at about $591.

Then you’ll have to make do with an Intel Core i5-1240P, which isn’t a bad SoC by any means. There are no differences between SSDs and our test device. In a clear battle with the Geekom Mini IT12, the Intel NUC series, especially the Wall Street Canyon and Arena Canyon models stands out. In terms of looks, both models are pretty much the same and have powerful SoCs. Some devices from Morefine and Minisforum also show that they can compete very well.

Pricing and Availability

A basic configuration of the Geekom Mini IT11 costs as little as $649, which is surprisingly low. This entry level model gives you a solid base for building a powerful mini PC that fits your needs. Geekom offers different combinations of RAM and storage for people who want ready-made options. The most expensive Intel Core i7-11390H, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD setup costs $1,049.

But this price really packs a punch for its size, which makes the Mini IT11 a great choice for creators, professionals, and anyone else who wants smooth multimedia and multitasking performance. The Mini IT11 is a great value for the money because you can upgrade its RAM, storage, and VESA mount. This lets you make it your own little powerhouse without spending a lot of money.

Geekom Mini IT12: Unboxing

Geekom Mini IT12

The small PC comes in the usual box that the company sends out for retail. Important information about the model you bought is written on a sticker on the bottom of the box, so you can make sure you got the right one before opening it. As planned, we got the Mini IT12 model with an Intel Core i7-12650H CPU, 32GB DDR4 SODIMM, and a 1TB SSD M.2.

It comes with an HDMI cable, a Thank You card, a user guide, a VESA mount, and a set of screws. The Mini IT12 package is very similar to the Mini IT13 package in terms of what it contains. On the front, there are two USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) ports, one of which supports power delivery (USB PD), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a power button.

On the right, there is a Kensington lock slot and ventilation holes. On the back, there is a 19V DC jack, two HDMI 2.0 ports, a 2.5GbE RJ45 jack, a USB 2.0 port, a 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, and two USB4 ports that can support up to 40 Gbps speeds and LCD Alt mode. On the other side, there is a full-size SD card and more air holes. That has the exact same design as the Mini IT13, right down to the ports.

Geekom Mini IT12: Design and Features

With its sleek turquoise body, the Geekom Mini IT12 breaks with tradition and stands out among the usual black behemoths. Its small size belies its powerful specs; inside its stylish plastic case are a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1260P processor and Iris Xe graphics. With two HDMI ports, Thunderbolt 4, and a lot of USB ports, you’ll never run out of ways to connect your peripherals.

The IT12 from Geekom gives you a lot of options; you can choose the RAM (up to 64GB) and storage (up to 2TB SSD). Even though it has a 2.5-inch SATA bay for older users, the PCIe x4 NVMe slot makes it easy to access very fast storage. With VESA mounting, the IT12 takes up no room at all, hiding behind your monitor for a clean look. The included fan has two settings: whisper-quiet for everyday tasks and performance boost for heavier tasks. However, some reviewers noticed that the performance boost setting made the fan make more noise.

Overall, the Geekom Mini IT12 is a powerful computer that comes in a stylish case. It has desktop-level performance in a palm-sized form factor. It can be set up in a lot of different ways and connects to a lot of different devices, which makes it a great choice for people who want a small powerhouse for work, entertainment, or even light gaming.

Geekom Mini IT12: Connectivity

Geekom Mini IT12

When it comes to connectivity, the Geekom Mini IT12 says a lot. It has four USB Type-A ports, but they can only connect at USB 2.0 speeds. In addition, it has two new USB-4 ports that work with Thunderbolt. This lets a lot of external devices connect, which in turn greatly increases the usefulness of the small device. With HDMI and Thunderbolt, you can connect up to four screens.

Along with an SD card reader that works really well, the mini PC has a 2.5 GB network connection. This little PC really shines when it comes to connections. Two state-of-the-art USB4 ports, Intel Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E make it possible to connect quickly and reliably. The 2.5GbE LAN port is the cherry on top; it ensures smooth, high-speed internet connection so you can enjoy your time online without any problems.

Geekom Mini IT12: Processor

You can find a new Intel Core i7-1260P inside the Geekom Mini IT12. To go along with its twelve native cores, the SoC can handle a total of sixteen threads. Because of this, the small processor is a good choice for doing hard tasks. It is said to use 64 watts of power during short-term use (PL2) and 28 watts during continuous load (PL1). In our test, our test device had a much lower PL1 value than both of its Intel NUC competitors. This was the reason why it performed much worse in multithreading. But all in all, it got only 8% less points than the Intel NUC 12 Pro Kit.

Geekom Mini IT12: Storage Devices

Geekom Mini IT12

Kingston made the 512 GB NVMe SSD in the Mini IT12. Since the model that was installed uses the NVMe port, it has fast transfer speeds. Still, the results that were written down can’t compare to those of the comparison devices. With a very fast SSD, the first three devices in this list show what’s possible.

In any case, it’s clear that the SSD in the Geekom Mini IT12 works better than regular SATA SSDs. Most of the time, the SSD is fast enough for everyday use, and there were almost no noticeable delays in our tests. The SSD couldn’t reach its full performance when it was constantly being used.

It’s clear that this one is missing a cooling element that would help keep the continuous load performance from dropping. In the Geekom Mini IT12, you can put up to three SSDs. You can add one more M.2 2242 SSD on top of the NVMe SSD, but it can only work at SATA speeds. In addition, a 2.5-inch storage device can be put inside the device, but it must be no taller than 7 millimetres.

Geekom Mini IT12: Performance

Geekom Mini IT12

Even though it’s small, the Geekom Mini IT12 packs a powerful punch. Its 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1260P processor can easily handle tough tasks, with 12 cores and 16 threads for smooth multitasking. It’s not as fast as some competitors when it comes to sustained workloads because it has lower power limits, but it’s great for single-core and short bursts, which makes it great for quick edits, web browsing, and light gaming.

The built-in Iris Xe graphics with 96 execution units make everyday tasks easy. They can also play 4K videos and even light games at lower resolutions. You won’t be able to play AAA games on high settings, but casual gamers and people who like multimedia will find it more than enough. Geekom puts a high value on quiet operation, and the Mini IT12 is incredibly quiet when it’s being used every day.

But when there are more things on the fan, it can be heard, but it’s never too loud to be annoying. The “silent mode” that comes with it is a quieter option, though it slightly lowers performance. You can choose between a fast PCIe Gen 4 SSD for quick boot times and app loading, and an extra 2.5-inch SATA bay for extra storage. Dual-channel DDR4 RAM completes the package and makes sure that switching between tasks runs smoothly and quickly.

Pros

  • Powerful performance
  • Compact and stylish design
  • Windows 11 Pro pre-installed
  • Good connectivity

Cons

  • Limited storage options
  • Not the most affordable option
  • Fan noise can get noticeable under heavy load

Final Words

Even when loaded, the Geekom Mini IT12’s powerful mini PC doesn’t make annoying fan noises. It has an Intel Core i7-1260P, a modern but not the latest Intel SoC. This performance deficit compared to the Intel Core i7-1360P was kept within limits during our test, so you can accept it. After all, the Intel Core i7-1260P has twelve native cores. Due to its many ports, including two Thunderbolt ports, the Geekom Mini IT12 impresses. WLAN and UHS-II card readers performed well in our test.

The Geekom Mini IT12 performed well in our test, but the SoC’s power consumption was likely a manufacturer issue. Its excellent emission figures gave the device extra points. Even with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD, the PC handles high-intensity tasks well. Perhaps the device’s plastic case is disappointing. Aluminium cases, used by Morefine and Minisforum, feel more premium. No other colours are available. The design is appealing, and the device is well-made and flawless.
