Logitech G715 review

The Logitech G715 is a fantastic gaming keyboard. You can choose between three mechanical GX switches at checkout, and regardless of which one you choose, they are all good for gaming.

The Logitech G715 is a Tenkey Less wireless gaming keyboard that is part of Logitech’s Aurora line, which also includes the Logitech G705 mouse. These products are designed to be inclusive for gamers who prefer a less aggressive gaming aesthetic. For example, this keyboard is available in a muted white base color, with the option of purchasing top plates and keycaps in different colors to add some customization to one’s setup. The Logitech G715 is an excellent gaming keyboard.

At checkout you can choose from three types of mechanical GX keys, and whichever you choose, they are all suitable for gaming. Latency is extremely low, making it great for any genre of game you want to play. The build quality also feels premium, and it is very comfortable to use for long periods of time thanks to the included wrist rest that adds great ergonomic support. Plus, the Logitech G HUB software lets you fully customize the RGB backlighting, although macro programming is only possible for the F1-F12 keys.

The Ten Keyless format doesn’t take up much space on a desk, and it feels very well built with high-quality PBT keycaps. It is also very comfortable thanks to the included cloud-shaped wrist rest and two tilt modes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support pairing with multiple devices via Bluetooth, but you can use it with two devices at once via a combination of Bluetooth connection and connection to the USB receiver. Also, you can only program macros on the F1-F12 keys, which is quite limiting.

Design

the Logitech G715’s dreamy aesthetic will be the first to stand out from the crowd of angular black boards we usually see in the gaming space. The TKL deck has 87 keys in total, so you won’t feel cramped despite the compact form factor. A nice addition to the Logitech G715’s visual design is the included cloud wrist rest, which sits under the keyboard for added support. We’re used to seeing wrist rests with the standard black leather design, so this soft alternative stands out. The deck is quite light, weighing just 976g.

This makes the Logitech G715 ideal for those who want to work and game on the go, as you probably won’t feel weighed down with this deck in your bag. The portable nature of this board is supported by Lightspeed wireless functionality for PC use, as well as Bluetooth to connect to other devices. You can also connect via the USB-C to USB-A adapter. It’s not all roses, however. Since this keyboard costs $199.99 / £169.99, and advertising revolves around the customizable nature of the deck, additional keycap colors and top plates will cost you extra.

Connectivity

The Logitech G715 offers wireless connectivity via “Lightspeed,” Logitech’s version of 2.4 GHz wireless, and Bluetooth, as well as wired connectivity via USB-C. The 2.4 GHz wireless USB-A dongle is located on the back of the keyboard, which has a dedicated button for switching between connections. The keyboard has only one Bluetooth profile.

RGB Lighting

The Logitech G715’s RGB lighting is powered by the brand’s Light sync technology, with 16.8M programmable colors and individual LEDs under each keycap. Most unique about the lighting here, however, is the 16 LED perimeter lighting on the bottom of the board itself. When you set the keyboard on its two legs, you’ll notice a warm glow radiating off the sides, as well as the keys themselves. Combined with the cloud support, this feature really adds to the ethereal nature of the brand.

Software

Customizable keys are unfortunately limited to the 12 function keys on the keyboard. The function row offers a second level of customization with G-SHIFT, but it is still only 24 programmable keys. The media keys and the roller are not programmable. In any case, G HUB is quite robust and offers a number of preset actions and system commands, as well as a macro recorder, to facilitate customization.

The G715 is also physically customizable, thanks to the removable top plate and keyboard covers (okay, all keyboards have removable keyboard covers, but at least Logitech offers some matching accessories at launch). The accessories are currently available in “Pink Dawn” and “Green Flash” colors. We may see other colors in the future, but Logitech has no concrete plans to talk about at the moment.

Performance

We used the Logitech G715 primarily wirelessly via the included Lightspeed USB dongle, but we also used it and connected it via Bluetooth. We have been consistently impressed with the speed of this keyboard: it is ready to use as soon as the PC boots up, with no connection issues, regardless of input. The Logitech G715 is marketed to offer a wide range of products, so you might think that the GX mechanical switches would be inferior to those in the MX line, but you would be wrong.

The brand gives users a choice between linear, tactile, or clicky in the US, with the latter option omitted in the UK. Working on the Logitech G715 is one of the more enjoyable experiences compared to some other gaming keyboards I’ve used this year, and we’re certainly appreciative of the extra space offered by the 80% form factor.

Personally, we didn’t notice the lack of a numeric keypad, despite coming from a full-size deck. Thanks to the linear switches, we achieved my usual standard of about 63 wpm in some of the more difficult typing tests, and we even achieved a new record of 67 in the two-minute benchmark. If you’re looking for a model for study or work, you’re right here; we even wrote this review about it.

Battery Life

The G715 lasts up to 25 hours, according to Logitech, but the company gave no parameters for this number. Still, it seems relatively accurate; we have used this keyboard for the past five hours from a full charge, with all lights at their brightest, and G HUB estimates about 81 percent, or 19 hours, remaining.

Conclusion

The Logitech G715 largely succeeds in its mission to target a broader demographic of gamers with its unique approach to mechanical gaming keyboards. As far as TKL keyboards go (80 percent), there are certainly worse models out there for your money, but the asking price is considerably high compared to the alternatives.

Simply put, the Logitech G715 is not the first white TKL gaming keyboard on the market, even when compared to other similarly priced models of the same brand, such as the Logitech G915 TKL. However, there is no other small-format keyboard that looks like this one, so if the feel is to your liking, then you will be satisfied.
